In all of my classes I teach handlers how teach their dogs using rewards of food, play and affection. In addition, I will teach you how to train any skill that you want to work on in the future by breaking the learning into layers of success.

Group Classes

My mission at Kinder K9 is to keep dogs out of shelters as a result of behavior challenges that statistically lead more often to abandonment or surrender into the shelter system. I believe that by supporting as many households as possible from before the puppy arrives and through the first couple of years, I can have the greatest positive impact on this challenging societal problem. My training methods are grounded in positive reinforcement for educating both dogs and their humans!

My name is Lisa Buchanan.

Kinder K9 was inspired by my experiences with all of the dogs and people at our local Midland OSPCA animal shelter. Layla, Beam, Koda...and especially Baz, inspired me to look for ways to support dog guardians as early in their relationships as possible. Dogs and their people deserve compassion and understanding. I am experienced as a nurse, an adult educator and I am a graduate of the Canine Foundations Training Academy through Georgian College. I am also a member in good standing of the Canadian Association of Professional Dog Trainers (CAPDT). At Kinder K9 you will find that my philosophy is always that a little goes a long way.

Learning Space

Classes are held in a beautiful studio inside Midland Ontario's Operation Grow! I love this setting for many reasons, including its serene energy. Handler state of mind is extremely important when interacting with animals. The lighting is warm and peaceful with a beautiful mural of a forest on one wall. You will find dog friendly temporary flooring that supports traction for the puppies and helps with noise dampening. Even if you don't come to a class, I encourage you to visit the Operation Grow store and support our local community!
